Starting in the Middle

Hello new blog!

I have started this blog to document the insane world of being an international fangirl in Japan. A road I was unprepared to travel when I arrived in here in April 2011, but have massively enjoyed jumping into since then.

The object of my affection/fangirlish obsession? The amazingly adorable, incredibly lovable and unbelievably popular (at least in Japan, seriously) J-pop idol group 嵐 (Arashi)!!

Oh how I love them. And oh how I have come to love being a fan of theirs.

I am beginning my blog in the middle of a journey that is about to take a turn for the ... incredible, in my humble opinion. I will be seeing my 5 favorite men (they are all over 30, these are men, not boys. lol) in concert for the first time on December 23rd!

I cannot begin to explain the excitement and luck I have at being able to go!
You see, an Arashi concert is not easy to get into. And here 5 big reasons why:

(1) As per the rules of Johnny's Entertainment, you must be in the Fan Club of the group to sign up for a ticket lottery ... and to be in the Fan Club you must have a Japanese address (i..e. they expect people living in Japan only)
(2) Arashi's Fan Club has over 1,670,000 (and growing) members vying for these tickets.
(3) These FC members can choose 3 concert dates they would like to try to get tickets for (via a lottery) for themselves and another FC member. So, for example, I personally entered the lottery 6 times (3 times via my membership and 3 times via a friend's)
(4) Arashi plays in 5 domes throughout Japan .... 5 cities only (3 days in Sapporo, Fukuoka and Nagoya 4 days in Osaka and, this year, 5 days in Tokyo)
(5) Arashi is currently celebrating their 15th year as a group, meaning the show is even more special to the FC members

If you do the math (say a dome seats about 50,000 people) it's not exactly easy.

So I will be starting with pre-concert goodness. There is apparently a ton of preparation to go to these events. things that Japanese fans do that I never would even think of on my own.

It is an interesting world I have flung myself into. Hope anyone reading this enjoys!

じゃあね!
